About The Application
Where I Can Help, welcomes you to
its web site.
Where I Can Help was created as a simple fast effective way to organize volunteers.
About The Developer
Where I Can Help was envisioned, designed, developed, and deployed by Frank Andrews,
Frank was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrigs) disease in 2002. Like so many others who have
faced the struggles of dealing with a major illness or disability, I felt both isolated and
yet inundated with offers to help. Like others I relied heavily on my closest friends and family
for help, but what about the other friends, neighbors, church and community members who wanted to
help but didn't know how.
I began to see 2 problems:
First many of these people didn't know me well enough
or felt it would be too intrusive to call regularly to see if I needed anything so they didn't.
Secondly because
I felt uncomfortable calling this outer circle of friends I didn't, I put all the burden of help on my inner circle.
With this in mind I began to envision a web application that would allow myself or primary helpers to post task(needs),
and others could sign up to help when, where, and what they were comfortable doing. The Volunteer Network that resulted
utilizes this concept of expanding circles of relationship or trust. As individuals are added to the Network they are
assigned to a circle or level of trust, then when a task is created it is only visible to those within the Network who qualify.
For example, you might be comfortable with a neighbor mowing the lawn or picking up groceries but not helping to pay bills.
I hope you find the application that resulted, benefical and
easy to use.
